In the past I’ve thought about doing any and all home renovation projects by myself. I wanted to save money and I wanted to feel somewhat accomplished by doing these things myself. However, I’ve learnt the hard way, that sometimes it’s best to call a professional.
Whether you have disaster home renovations stories yourself and know what I’m talking about or have been wondering if you should do it yourself instead of hiring a handyman, let me stop you right there. If you are wondering, it means that you are not as confident doing that task as you’d wish. So, stop it and ring a professional instead.
Why should you hire a handyman in London?
I guess this applies to anyone (not just Londoners!)… Why should you hire a handy man? That’s the question. You might have just purchased flat pack furniture and overestimated the amount of time and work necessary to put it together. You might have felt some cold breezes around the house and think you could draughtproof your home by yourself. Maybe, maybe not. You might have the necessary skills to complete home renovations all by yourself but the truth is that sometimes is best to hire an expert.
Quick, efficient and to standard
As the Handy Squad, handyman London, puts it in a recent blog post, “Hiring a handyman is the best way to ensure that your task is completed quickly, efficiently and to the highest standard. Handymen are trained in their craft and are a much better and safer alternative.”
Do you want to spend twice the time (or longer) completing a task that a handyman could quickly finish? Do you want to do a poor job at fixing something and in a few months it’s worse than it was before? Do you want to hurt yourself whilst replacing something around the house? I know it feels easier and cheaper to do it yourself but it’s important to consider time, safety and long term durability.
Think long term
Simple Parenting comments that it’s important to think ahead. “You might want to sell your home in the future, so it’s important to think ahead.” The best solution for the long term is to hire someone who knows what they are doing and will ensure that the task at end is done properly.
What to consider when booking a handyman?
“When you contact a handyman service, the more details you provide the better. Some companies won’t perform some tasks, such as painting, while others avoid such specialized work as electrical, plumbing, or masonry. Some services accept only small projects; others work only on multiday remodeling jobs.” Explains this article on the Philadelphia Inquirer.
Which handyman should I book?
Rice Cakes and Raisins recommended the Handy Squad for any home-related repairs, renovations and more. “Whether you are in need of a handyman in North London, an East London handyman or a handyman anywhere else in London, I’d recommend The Handy Squad. You might even need a carpenter, an electrician, a plumber or a decorator – contact them, and they will be able to help!”
Of course, the right handyman will depend on your location and the service you need. Look for “handyman near me” and “local handyman” for other options! I’m sure you’ll find a variety of handyman services and great companies like The Handy Squad, who will be able to give you a helping hand.
