Entertainment ideas for a parent’s birthday party at home

If your parent’s birthday is coming up then you may be thinking up ideas of how to treat them. If they love parties then why not host a birthday party for your parent at your own home and garden? Your home and garden can be the ideal location for the birthday party.  This will save money on hiring an expensive location and mean you can splash out a little more on entertainment ideas. You can keep the party as a surprise or even let them know about it if they aren’t big on surprises.

There are lots of ways to make your parent’s birthday party extra special, even from the comfort of your own home and garden. Read on for lots of entertainment ideas for a party you host in your own home or garden.

Hire outside musicians

A party isn’t a party without music! No matter whether your parents prefer a live band, DJ or singer, there is something for everyone when it comes to hiring a musician for their party. A simple guitarist singing their own songs is also the perfect idea for a more low key garden party or if you can’t make too much noise in your location! Oldies singers or cover bands are a great idea if you have room for the full set up in your home or outside. If you have a reasonable sized garden then set up a garden marquee for the band.  If neighbours are close by then don’t forget to invite them, if you get along, or give them advance notice of the party dates so they can be prepared for a day of noise!

Have a themed party and decorate from their era

If they’d love a themed party then why not decorate with vintage décor and themed party accessories reminiscent of their era? For example, if they grew up in the 60s and have fond memories then opt for a 60s themed bash. You could even make it a dress theme too and ask all the guests to wear 60s attire or whatever decade they loved the most. Some people don’t feel comfortable going into town dressed up, but will feel comfortable doing so for a home and garden party.

Create a photo wall of memories

No matter whether the party is inside or outside, you can be creative and make a photo wall of memories with some of the best, funniest, cutest and most memorable photos of your parent. If you have a brick wall you can adorn in the garden then these LED lights you can decorate with polaroid snaps of your parent would make a beautiful party feature:

Have a craft party

If your parent is crafty and music and lots of people really isn’t their thing, then keep the party at your house a little more lowkey with a few of their closest friends and family. If they like crafts then create an at-home craft workshop! You can buy all sorts of kits online such as a pottery kit for beginners or papercutting kit which you can all enjoy doing together with some music in the background and ordering a takeaway. If you’re not crafty then you may think of crafts being full of glitter and glue and kid-like, but there are lots of adult craft kits you can buy that are a bit more stylish.

Hire a caterer or pop-up street food for the garden

You can make the food yourself of course, but if you’re hosting a party at home and saving on event venues then why not splash out on caterers so you can enjoy the party too?  From pop-up stone-baked pizza caterers to full-on buffet dinners, choose something your parents will love and let the caterers serve you and your guests. You could even hire a private chef for a smaller party size. They’ll buy the ingredients, cook and clean up after too!

Be creative with lighting and décor

Your garden is the perfect place for a summer party to celebrate your parent’s birthday. Homemade bunting and paper crafts can beautify the garden. Festoon lighting, large lanterns with candles and solar panel sticks can ensure the party doesn’t need to end when the sun goes down.

There are so many ways to host an amazing party at your own home and garden. No matter what your parent’s tastes, you’ll be able to come up with a unique and creative idea to give them the best birthday yet.
