Dream Destinations For Beautiful Architecture

When it comes to your next travel venture, you might want to incorporate some of your hobbies and interests. If seeing the world’s architecture is on your bucket list, then take a look at the article below. Here you will find some ideas and inspiration on where you can find certain styles and designs. 

Strasbourg, France

The architecture in Strasbourg is a unique mix coming from both French and German influences. Typically containing medieval timber-framed homes and buildings. Most of the houses in the Petite-France district have this type of design and are known as half-timbered houses.

Strasbourg also contains Gothic architecture, which can be found in the world-famous Strasbourg Cathedral. This is also a UNESCO World Heritage Site, due to its outstanding beauty and Gothic architecture. 

If you are travelling to Strasbourg, then you must stay in the ultra-modern and urban style Graffalgar hotel. It is located near the city centre, and if your room isn’t ready when you arrive, then you are more than welcome to use the luggage storage facility at Strasbourg train station. 

St. Petersburg, Russia

In order to beat the stricter Baroque style, St Petersburg in Russia adopted the Rococo movement. This originated in France, around the 18th century and comes with its own unique style. You can typically identify it through the curves and pale colours that have been used. Female rulers across Europe absolutely loved Rococo architecture, especially in St. Petersburg. One of the most famous Rococo style buildings still stands today, and is the Catherine Palace, which was originally commissioned by Catherine I.

If you still want to see some of the older Baroque styles across St. Petersburg, then take yourself to the Winter Palace and the Stroganov Palace. 

Dubai, United Arab Emirates

Over the last ten years, Dubai’s landscape and skyline have gone through an incredible transformation. Dubai loves contemporary architectural designs, and one great example of this is the world’s tallest building. This is the seven-star hotel, the Burj al Arab. It is modelled on the seven continents in the world, and you should book to stay there at least once in your life. Dubai has some beautiful things to see, such as another skyscraper, the Palm Jumeirah. These can be seen for miles and miles on the skyline. 

Oxford, England

There was a poet who once described this gorgeous city as the city of dreaming spires. Oxford is known for its Gothic revival, dating back to the mid-19th century. They took their inspiration for this type of architecture from Medieval stonework. One of the most renowned forms of Gothic revival in Oxford is the world-famous university. 

Oxford also contains some architecture from the Baroque era, its first circular library and the Sheldonian Theatre. They really are amazing places to see. 

Athens, Greece

For a touch of classical architecture, there is nowhere quite like Athens in Greece. The architect here dates way back to 400 BC. Ancient columns are holding up temples, which make for a wonderful picture. Some examples of these temples include the Temple of Hephaestus and the Temple of Olympian Zeus. One well-known temple in Athens is perhaps the Parthenon, which was dedicated to the Goddess Athena.

Miami, Florida

You might really love the Art Deco style when it comes to your architect. If this is the case, then you must visit Miami at least once. You can see a great example of this in Miami Beach, where they have a historic district. When Miami needed to up its tourist trade, it made the switch to Art Deco’s geometrical patterns and out-there motifs. Over the years, Miami’s architecture has changed and now includes MiMo (Miami Modern) with hints of Mediterranean Revival. Two great places to take in Miami’s architecture are the Freedom Tower and Miami Tower. 

Rome, Italy

Lastly, if you are a fan of the Romans’ work, then you will already know that they were great innovators and architects. If you love Baroque buildings and other architecture, then Rome is certainly somewhere you want to explore. Baroque architecture plays with light and shadows, a great example of this can be found in St. Peter’s Square and the Trevi Fountain.

Rome is also incredibly famous for the Colosseum, despite its old age, this is still the largest standing amphitheatre in the world. It really is a piece of architecture that needs to be seen to be believed.
