When it came time to upgrade our daughter’s bed, we knew we needed something practical yet stylish, and the Origin Storage Bed delivered exactly that. We ordered the small double size (190cm x 120cm), the perfect fit for a growing teen who’s rapidly accumulating books, clothes, and all the other bits and pieces that come with being nearly 13. Delivery Experience
The delivery was handled by Arrow XL, and I was very impressed with the whole process. We received a confirmed delivery day and a 2-hour time slot, which helped plan our day around it. Even better, they gave me a courtesy call 20 minutes before arrival, so I had plenty of notice to get everything ready. The two couriers were friendly, helpful, and carried the two large packages into the house with no fuss. Honestly, the whole experience was smooth and stress-free.
Packaging & First Impressions
Everything arrived safely and undamaged, with all the individual components of the bed carefully packaged to prevent any knocks or scratches. There was quite a bit of packaging, but it did an excellent job of protecting the bed. The accessories box was complete, although at first I thought it was missing; it was actually tucked away inside the headboard, hidden behind a velcro panel. Thankfully, this was clearly explained in the instructions, and once found, everything was present and correct. A small but thoughtful detail that shows the care taken with this product.
Assembly & Instructions
Putting the bed together was more straightforward than I expected, and overall, the build process was smooth and well thought out.
The paper instructions that came with the bed were very clear in listing all the components included, which I found especially helpful as I referred back to it throughout the assembly. There were 16 steps in total, each guiding you through the process in a logical order.
Most of the instructions were easy to follow, but I did come across one moment of confusion:
- Fitting two washers on a bolt when securing the outer bed frame — the diagram wasn’t as clear as it could have been.

From unboxing to tightening the final bolt, the full process took just under 80 minutes. I’m a part-time handyman, so I do have a bit of experience with flat-pack assembly, but I genuinely think most people would be able to construct this bed in under two hours, especially with the help of the video guide.

Here’s my advice for making the process even easier:
- Unpack everything first and lay the parts out on the floor so you can clearly see what’s what.
- Check off all the components against the packing list in the instructions before you start.
- Then, watch the YouTube video in full and follow each step in the manual closely as you go. Doing this prep upfront saves a lot of time and confusion later on.
Once built, take a moment to test the lifting mechanism. It’s worth noting that it can feel quite firm when pushing it down without a mattress on top, so take care and watch your fingers during this part!
Quality & Functionality
Once assembled, the Origin Ottoman Bed immediately gave the impression of being a high-quality, well-engineered piece of furniture. I can see why they provide a 5-year warranty. The construction combines a sturdy steel frame with durable wooden panels, all neatly covered in a soft, luxurious fabric. The grey upholstered finish is neutral and modern, making it an easy match for most bedroom decor. That said, it would be great to see additional colour options in the future to give customers more flexibility with their styling.
The bed includes an integrated headboard, which is also well-built and feels very solid once installed. It adds to the bed’s overall stability and aesthetic, though it’s worth noting that because it’s part of the frame, it can’t be swapped out or changed, something to keep in mind if you ever want to refresh the look.
One of the standout features is the gas-lift storage mechanism. It operates incredibly smoothly. After a gentle pull on the handy fabric harness, the frame begins to lift on its own with very little effort. The lifting mechanism feels safe and well-balanced, even when the mattress is in place. Once open, it stays firmly in position, giving you easy access to the full storage space beneath the bed.
Speaking of storage, this bed really delivers. With internal clearance of around 25cm in height, the entire 190cm x 120cm frame is fully usable for storage, ideal for keeping bedding, clothes, boxes, or other everyday items neatly tucked away. That’s roughly 550 litres of storage capacity, which is a big win for compact bedrooms or for anyone looking to make better use of their space.
Because the lifting mechanism is so easy to operate, we’re planning to use it for items we need to access frequently, not just long-term storage. It’s practical enough for daily use without any hassle.
The bed’s wooden slats provide a nice bit of flexibility and bounce, and we’ve paired it with a memory foam mattress, which has worked really well in terms of support and comfort. There’s no creaking or movement from the frame at all; it feels incredibly solid and dependable, even with regular use.
Final Thoughts
All in all, I’m thoroughly impressed with the Origin Ottoman Bed. From start to finish, ordering, delivery, assembly, and daily use, the experience has been nothing but positive. It’s rare to find a product that strikes such a good balance between style, functionality, quality, and price, but this bed does exactly that.
It’s very well-priced for the quality you’re getting. The materials feel premium, the design is modern and understated, and the build quality is genuinely impressive. It’s easy to assemble (especially with a little prep and the help of the YouTube video), and once built, it’s solid, quiet, and dependable, with a lift mechanism that’s so smooth and easy to use, it feels effortless.
The storage space is a real game-changer, especially for anyone trying to make the most of a smaller bedroom. For us, it’s ideal, our daughter now has a comfortable, stylish bed with tons of hidden storage underneath, and she couldn’t be happier with it. It’s the kind of solution that grows with her needs, and it’s already helping keep her room much more organised.
If I had to make one small suggestion, it would be to offer more colour options in the future to suit different bedroom themes better. But that’s the only thing I’d change.
