2018 was a busy year for me and Wood Create having a number of custom and bespoke orders from a number selling platforms and through friends and family. Whilst I work full time as an IT manager, in my spare time I love to be creative and design furniture. It started off as a hobby but has quickly turned into more than that.
The best bit is that people actually like my designs and appreciate the craftsmanship. Selling my work and creating more furniture has been very rewarding, especially as I use mostly reclaimed materials. Knowing that I can turn discarded materials into loved pieces of furniture that will last many more years is just amazing.
In no particular order, here are some of my recent favourite pieces.
Built in wardrobe
A friend of ours approached me asking if I’d like to build them a bespoke built in wardrobe in their new house. They’d seen some of my furniture and our own built in wardrobe and fancied something for their son’s attic bedroom. I hadn’t built anything this big before but after seeing the space and mentally visualising the finished article I thought I could do something really special and unique in that space. Here is the final product.

Industrial dining table
I rescued this slab of wood a day before it was being taken to the skip and I’m glad I did as although it needed quite a bit of work the final product turned out beautiful. I listed it on eBay and just days after I had about 40 watchers. Another couple of days later it sold to a local guy who was looking for something a little different from the “mass produced flat pack Ikea crap” (his words!) I also listed this on our intranet at work and received a custom order.

Mid century modern desk
The mid century design era was heavily influenced by Scandinavian, simplistic and somewhat organic design back in the 50s and today is still very much alive and back on trend for the modern home. And I just love it. This has to be my favourite piece of all and possibly the most technically difficult I’ve made. In 2019 I plan to expand the range with bedside tables, coffee tables and TV/Sideboard tables and stands. Again, these items will all be available in custom sizes to suit any interior space. Take a look at my shop for more options and pricing.

iPad stand
This secure wooden iPad stand is perfect for a number of applications including a reception area check in desk, point of sale (POS) till system or display unit for video demos or product catalogues. This one was made for Superdry’s reception area as a bespoke order and the rustic wood fits in right at home next to the rustic board cladding. The stand offers a secure way to lock the iPad into location and prevents any tampering or theft. Ideal for their global digital brand and custom made rustic reception.

Self built shed
OK, so this isn’t quite furniture but it was great fun to build and I do use it to store all my furniture. Built from scratch this 12 x 10ft shed is an ideal storage solution for all my creations and believe it or not it was cheaper than the equivalent size flat pack shed. you can read more here and see my step-by-step guide on how to build your own and where to find the materials. It still needs a little work to build a nice path or patio area around the outside but I’m saving that for the warmer weather. I’ll probably end up building a bigger one at some point as my empire expands but for now it’s perfect.

Industrial coffee table
This simple but attractive coffee table was a commission for a colleague at work. They really liked my industrial dining table and wanted something in a similar colour but with the hairpin legs. The industrial look is very popular right now so there will be plenty more where this came from for my collection of reclaimed, rustic items.

That’s it for now but keep your eyes peeled for more great items in 2019. Apologies for the terrible photography, I’ll be investing in improving this during the year 🙂
